Swing / Lindy Hop Boot Camp and Monthly Dance!

4:30-8:30 Beginner oriented Swing and Lindy Hop Boot Camp

4:30 – 5:30 PM – Intro to Six-Count Swing: Begin at the beginning! Learn the basics of six-count swing, including footwork, connection, and patterns, giving you the skills and confidence get out on the dance floor right away.

5:30 – 6:30 PM – Intro to Eight-Count Swing: The next step! Learn the basic eight-count footwork pattern (the basis for much future study), as well as the essential Lindy Hop “swingout.”

6:30 – 7:30 PM – Putting It All Together: The final piece of the puzzle! Learn to transition between six- and eight-count patterns, and eventually blend the two into one seamless dance.

7:30 – 8:30 PM – Taking It to the Next Level: Add maturity and elegance to your Lindy Hop with an in-depth exploration of connection, technique, and expression. Discover new ways to approach the dance and create your own personal style. (Familiarity with the basic swingout required.)



8:30 – 12:30 AM – Afterwards grab a quick bite to eat and join us try out your new skills at Hampton Road’s monthly Lindy Hop social dance, the Southside Stomp. Four hours of social dancing to the music of DJ Kristy Milliken.

$45 in advance / $55 at the door (also includes the evening social dance)

Experienced lindy hoppers may attend just the “Taking It to the Next Level” class (7:30-8:30) and the social dance for $12 / $10 with military/student ID at the door.


Instructor Bio
Emily Vanston is a passionate teacher, performer, and social dancer, specializing in Lindy Hop and other swing-era dances. Emily has danced with such companies as New York’s Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, the Lindy Hop All-Stars, the Jivadeers, the Vanaver Caravan, General Mischief Dance Theatre, and the Palmer Arts Collaborative, performing at such NYC hotspots as the Edison Ballroom, the Connelly Theatre, LaMaMa Theatre, and Galapagos Art Space. She has earned first place in several Lindy Hop competitions, and recently appeared on the ‘Great Gatsby’ episode of the hit reality show ‘My Fair Wedding.’

Emily teaches at Dance Manhattan Studios in NYC, and at venues throughout the Northeast, including the internationally-acclaimed Swing Out New Hampshire Dance Camp in Hebron, NH. As a teacher, Emily strives to create a safe environment in which to explore fundamental technique, connection, and partnership. Her spirited and patient teaching style make the dance accessible to even the most apprehensive beginner.
